A SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE,
1880.

Serial number 131261, .45-70 caliber, round barrel with adjustable rear sight and marked at the breech "R" and with proof marks "V/P" over eagle's head and "P", loading door marked "U.S./MODEL/1873"; flat lock plate marked with a spread wing eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD"; walnut stock with "SWP/1880" cartouche on the left side, and "P" within a circle cartouche below the trigger guard; steel furniture and bands, the butt plate marked "US", no rammer.
Barrel lg. 32 1/2 in., overall lg. 52 in.

Condition: Barrel toned to brown, rear sight lacking internal spring on elevator; lock toned to mottled gray, hammer screw is broken; stock has scattered dings, dents and a gouge on the butt; missing rammer and rear sling swivel; bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
