AN EARLY SECOND YEAR OF PRODUCTION SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 TRAPDOOR RIFLE,

Serial number 3005, .45-70 caliber, round barrel with adjustable rear sight and marked "P/3" at the breech, loading door marked "MODEL/1873" over an eagle's head and crossed sword and "U.S."; flat lock plate marked with a spread wing eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD"; walnut stock with "RGS" cartouche on the left side, "P" within a circle cartouche below the trigger guard and marked "36" on the right side of the butt; steel furniture and bands, with steel rammer.
Barrel lg. 29 1/2 in., overall lg. 49 in.
Condition: Barrel mostly toned to brown, loading door has remnants of case coloring; lock has been refinished; stock has scattered dings, dents and scratches; bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
