A RARE SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1870 TRAPDOOR CARBINE,
1871.

.50-70 caliber, round barrel with graduated ladder sight, the loading door marked "1870" over an eagle's head, crossed arrows and "U.S."; flat lock with rounded tail dated "1863" and marked with a spread wing eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" in front of the hammer; walnut stock with a "TBH" cartouche for Thomas B. Hawks above an "ESA" cartouche for Erskine S. Allin, "83" stamped below the sling bar, "19" stamped below the breech tang; iron furniture, the butt plate marked "19", trigger guard marked "A", barrel band marked "U."
Barrel lg. 22, overall lg. 41 1/4 in.

Condition: Good overall condition, barrel toned to brown, loading door and lock toned to mottled gray/brown, stock has scattered, dings, dents and scratches, bright bore with sharp rifling, action functions properly.
