A SHARPS SPORTING RIFLE,
c. 1870s.

Serial number 1725 (a first digit may be missing), .40 caliber, heavy octagon barrel with adjustable rear buckhorn sight; frame marked "C.SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 12TH 1848"; walnut stock and steel furniture; fitted with a Navy Arms 4x15 brass tube sight.
Barrel lg. 25 1/2, overall lg. 41 1/4 in.

Condition: Metal toned to brown, stock has old surface and old loss on the left side of the forearm, bore has surface oxidation but strong rifling, action functions properly.
