A U.S. BAHNFREI SWORD BAYONET,
c. 1862.

Brass handle, the ribbed grip with molded inscription "BAHN=FREI", the back with slot and spring clip, integrally cast cross guard with two quillons; unmarked Bowie-style blade with false edge at the tip.
Blade lg. 18 1/2, overall lg. 23 1/2 in.

Condition: Brass is toned to yellow, spring clip is loose; blade has scattered light gray mottling.
