A U.S. MODEL 1861 DAHLGREN BOWIE KNIVE BAYONET FOR THE PLYMOUTH/WHITEYVILLE RIFLE,
Ames Manufacturing Company, Chicopee, Massachusetts, 1863.

The brass handle with steel retaining spring and wood grip, the end of the pommel marked "DR" within an oval cartouche; straight single-edge blade with false edge at the tip, the ricasso marked on one side "U.S.N./D.R/1863" and on the other "AMES MFG CO/CHICOPEE/
MASS."; black leather scabbard with brass mounts.
Blade lg. 11 3/4, overall lg. 16 1/2 in.

Condition: Brass is toned to yellow and has scattered dings and dents, wood grip has scattered dents and abrasions; blade is toned to gray with areas of darker gray mottling; scabbard is in good overall condition with scattered scratches; brass has shallow dents.
