A SNIDER-ENFIELD MARK III SHORT RIFLE,
1869.

30 3/4 in., .577 Snider caliber, blued barrel with proof marks, adjustable rear sight and bayonet mounting lug on the right side of the muzzle; breech door marked "SNIDER/PATENT"; flat lock plate with rounded tail marked with a crown over "VR" and in front of the hammer "1869/ENFIELD" with a crowned broad arrow mark; walnut stock, the right side of the butt with round Enfield cartouche, steel furniture and bands; steel rammer.
Overall lg. 48 7/8 in.

Condition: Very good overall condition; barrel is quite strong with some thinning at the muzzle; lock plate shows a trace of case color; stock has scattered dings and dents; bore is bright with sharp rifling and areas of very minor pitting; action functions properly.
