AN AUSTRIAN PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE OF TYROLEAN TYPE BY A. KNITTEL,
c. 1845-50.

36 1/8 in., .50 caliber octagon barrel; flat lock plate with chased foliate decoration and signed "A:Knittel"; walnut stock with relief carved foliate scrolls and cottager decoration, checkered grip; brass furniture including heavy butt plate with foliate scroll engraving, large trigger guard, foliate side plate and cast rammer pipes, German silver escutcheons around the barrel keys, horn nose cap.
Overall lg. 48 1/2 in.

Condition: Barrel is toned to light gray with very minor surface pitting; lock is toned to light gray, action needs attention; stock has scattered dings, dents and blemishes; brass toned to yellow, trigger guard has a small loss, half of nose cap is missing, later rammer.
