A DUTCH OR GERMANIC FLINTLOCK MILITARY MUSKET,
second half of the 18th century.

42 1/2 in., .79 caliber octagon to round barrel with bottom mounted bayonet lug; curved flat lock plate with stepped and pointed tail; walnut stock with short comb on the butt; iron furniture including a butt plate with a rounded tang, trigger guard with ball finial, flat "S" side plate, three barrel bands, sling swivels, and a steel rammer with flaring head and plain end.
Overall lg. 57 5/8 in.

Condition: Barrel toned to dark brown, lock toned to mottled brown, furniture and bands toned to dark brown, some shrinkage at the butt, strip of wood at the forward end of the lock mortice is restored, scattered dings and dents, sliver losses along barrel channel, scattered insect holes especially in the butt, action functions properly.
