A BRITISH REGIMENTALLY MARKED MILITIA MUSKET,
by Joseph Loder, London, last quarter of the 18th century.

41 3/4 in., .78 caliber barrel with ring decoration at the breech and London Company of Gunmakers proof marks on the left side of the breech; flat lock plate with stepped tail, engraved "Loder" below the pan; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang, stamped behind the side plate "TM/LLV/3/REG" and rammer channel marked "WH" and "VI"; brass furniture including a Short Land Pattern-style butt plate engraved "38" on the tang, Land Pattern-style thumb piece engraved "B", Land Pattern-style trigger guard, flat side plate with pointed tail, brass nose cap and Land Pattern-style rammer pipes; sling swivels, steel rammer with button head and plain end.
Overall lg. 57 1/2 in.

Condition: Barrel toned to dark brown; lock toned to mottled gray/brown; stock has a through crack in front of the upper rammer pipe, cracks and a loss along the rammer channel, a crack on the underside of the lock area and scattered dings and dents, action functions properly.
