A REVOLUTIONARY WAR AMERICAN HORSEMAN'S SABER,
c. 1780.

The large brass hilt reminiscent of the type made in New York by James Potter for Loyalist troops, with slotted counter-guard and tapering knuckle bow connecting to a ring beneath a massive olive shaped pommel, spiral carved hard wood grip; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and three narrow fullers.
Blade lg. 34, overall lg. 40 1/2 in.
Condition: Untouched original condition, hilt has rich patina and old surface on the grip; blade toned to dark brown with areas of old surface oxidation and associated pitting.
