A NEW ENGLAND FLINTLOCK MILITIA MUSKET,
c. 1777-85.

39 1/2 in., .67 caliber octagon to round barrel with pewter front sight and bottom mounted bayonet lug; French Model 1766-type Charleville lock; cherry stock with pronounced French profile butt; furniture includes an iron early French-style butt plate, engraved brass Dutch thumb piece, brass French Model 1733-style trigger guard, engraved American side plate, sheet brass nose band and three mixed sheet brass rammer pipes, iron rammer with trumpet had and plain end.
Overall lg. 54 3/4 in.

Condition: Barrel and lock toned to deep brown; steel spring likely an early replacement; stock has old sliver losses along the barrel channel and old stable shrinkage cracks at the butt; brass tone to deep yellow; action functions properly.
