Provenance:
with Gawain McKinley, London.
Schefler Collection, New York, acquired from the above, 21 October 1985.
The bell-shaped body and folded foot are more unusual features of this form of modiolus, found mostly in the western part of the Roman Empire, all distinguished by their larger size and a single smaller handle to the side that were derived from vessels made in other materials used initially for measuring corn.
