The "patella" cup is one of the more common forms of early Roman cast vessels produced in both monochrome and mosaic glass. For two closely related cups composed of sections of similar canes of probable Italian manufacture in the Toledo Museum of Art, cf. D.F. Grose, Early Ancient Glass. Core-Formed, Rod-Formed, and Cast Vessels and Objects from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Roman Empire, 1600 B.C. to A.D. 50, The Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo (Hudson Hill Press, New York), 1989, pp. 225, 323-4, nos. 516, 519.
