Footnotes

Provenance:
Lloyd and Jeanne Raport Collection, Washington DC and Florida, formed between 1972 – 2000.

Set on an integral base wearing a high-wasted chiton and folds of drapery across her proper left arm, the remains of the globe rests on the base, the ship's rudder now missing, a symbol of her control over luck and fortune. For a larger marble statue of Fortuna, excavated by Gavin Hamilton, similarly depicted, complete with the attributes of a rudder resting on a globe and holding a cornucopia, cf. The British Museum, acc. no. 1805, 0703.
