Footnotes

Walter Duncan was a London based painter and watercolourist. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1874 and regularly exhibited works from 1869-93 at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Grosvenor Gallery, the New Gallery and the Royal Watercolour Society.

In 1883, the year before these two watercolours were executed, Duncan married the daughter of an officer stationed in the North-Western Provinces, which led to a two year stay in India.
