"Wanton, cold-blooded excursion, on the part of white inhabitants [of Trelawny, Jamaica]... A black skin, which was the common mark of slavery, became at length a mark of degradation, indignity, disdain, and odium, by the whites" - a powerful account of a "shooting excursion" which led to the killing of several runaway slaves who had "subsisted eleven years, without offense or molestation to the neighbourhood".
