SLAVERY - JAMAICA
Account of a Shooting Excursion on the Mountains near Dromilly Estate, in the Parish of Trelawny, and Island of Jamaica, in the Month of October, 1824!!!, FIRST EDITION, half-title, stitched as issued, 8vo, Printed by Harvey and Darton, 1825
Footnotes
"Wanton, cold-blooded excursion, on the part of white inhabitants [of Trelawny, Jamaica]... A black skin, which was the common mark of slavery, became at length a mark of degradation, indignity, disdain, and odium, by the whites" - a powerful account of a "shooting excursion" which led to the killing of several runaway slaves who had "subsisted eleven years, without offense or molestation to the neighbourhood".
Provenance: "Mrs Richard Smith, to be returned", early inscription on half-title.
