Footnotes

Provenance
Courtesy of the artist

"I had the pleasure of seeing and photographing these dazzling, red-crowned cranes in Hokkaido, Japan. They are large and graceful birds known for the striking red crown and white plumage. They are revered in Asian cultures as symbols of luck, fidelity and longevity. Their grace and beauty remind me of the beauty of the transgender/gender diverse community. A grace and elegance exist in being true to oneself and spreading your wings for flight into a new world that you had the courage to enter." -Michelle Liles

Artist Statement: Michelle Liles has traveled to 7 continents and 63 countries in quest of the species of our natural world. She is also the publisher of The Wild Lens Magazine.
