"Community is the foundation of my art, and support is essential for self-expression. This foundation fosters safe spaces for transgender youth and families affected by HIV, ensuring they feel seen and empowered. "Second Skin" was born from the love and support that fuel my creativity, making it my tribute to The Laurel Foundation—because we all deserve a community that uplifts and inspires us." -Shannon Zembriski

Artist Statement: Shannon Zembriski is a Philadelphia-based painter, passionate about creating vibrant and dynamic artwork that merges her love for fashion and art. With a solid foundation in textile design, her work is characterized by bold color palettes, intricate patterns, and innovative compositions. Her artistic journey has been shaped by a constant drive to experiment with new styles and materials, resulting in visual narratives that reflect her curiosity and unique perspective on the world.

Second Skin showcases one of Shannon's favorite shirts and serves as a tribute to her recent collection, Life in Stripes. In this series, she embraces a graphic painting style that minimized color while emphasizing depth through shadows, composition, and texture. This collection also highlights her love for art and fashion, showcasing the inspiration she draws from both forms of expression. Second Skin builds on these themes, taking it a step further with running paint lines, a reserved pose, and a faded backdrop. These elements both contrast and complement the Life in Stripes collection, amplifying the rich textures within the work.
