Footnotes

十八世紀 粉彩花卉紋長頸大瓶

The splendid quality of enamel decoration displayed in this lot exemplifies the brilliant artistry of the Jingdezhen craftsmen. While unmarked, this vase is clearly a product of the 18th century, with the delicate treatment of the pastel enamels in the floral sprays and rockwork, and the elegant shape of the vessel with its single bowstring at the neck. The quality of decoration is analogous to that found on fine floral decorated bowls of the Yongzheng period. See a bowl sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 6 April 2016, lot 3620. See also a Qianlong vase in the Palace Museum, Beijing, published in The Complete Collection of Treasures in the Palace Museum. Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Shanghai, 1999, catalog no. 89, page 103.

See a superbly painted famille rose peony vase, Yongzheng seal mark and period, of tianshouping form, displaying the refined enameled decoration found on this lot, sold Sotheby's, Hong Kong, October 30, 2000, lot 205. The bow-string band, seen on peach bloom vases of the Kangxi period, continues through the 18th century, as seen on a fine famille rose long-neck vase, Yongzheng, sold at Bonhams, London, June 13, 2002, lot 143, and also on a large blue and white hu-form vase, Qianlong mark and period, sold Sotheby's, New York, May 31 - June 1, 1994, lot 324.
