Kosometsuke is a designation for wares made during the Tianqi period, made in the unofficial kilns in Jingdezhen primarily for export to Japan in the 17th century. These wares were largely used in tea ceremonies in Japan. For a study of these wares, see Stephen Little, Chinese Ceramics of the Transitional Period: 1620-1683, New York, China House Gallery, China Institute of America, 1984. For a pair of blue and white 'horse' dishes see Sotheby's, London, 15 May 2013, lot 126.
