清咸豐 《大清咸豐年製》紅款 淺绛彩山水風景圖碗成對

Porcelain of this quality from the Xianfeng period is relatively rare during this short period. The Taiping rebellion caused the destruction of the Imperial kilns at Jingdezhen in 1855, and they were not rebuilt until 1866, making porcelain production during this time a scant four years. Painted in the qianjiang style of painting, lead by Cheng Men (1833-1908), with his interest in the landscape of the Yuan masters, these exquisite bowls would have appealed to the literati taste of the Jiangnan merchants and of court taste at the time.*

See a landscape dish in the Hong Kong exhibition Ch'ing Polychrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1977, cat. no. 112, then sold Christie's, London, July 15, 1981, lot 18. A jardiniere reminiscent of this theme, part of the Palace Museum, Beijing collection, is published in The Complete Collection of Treasures in the Palace Museum. Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, pl. 220. See a massive qianjiangcai enameled 'One Hundred Deer' vase by Cheng Men, rendered with an elegant landscape and dated by inscription to 1877, Sold Bonhams, San Francisco, June 23, 2015, lot 7291.
