A PALE CELADON-YELLOW JADE 'SIXTEEN-SEAL-CHARACTER' SNUFF BOTTLE

1770-1830
Of flattened rounded rectangular shape, carved in low relief with eight seal characters to each main side starting with yi ren shen zhi and bordered on the narrow sides by archaistic confronted ascending dragons their coiling key-pattern shaped bodies carved with c-scrolls, below a cylindrical neck with flat rim and regular mouth, supported on a rounded oval foot ring and flat base.

For a white jade bottle with very similar 'confronted dragon' design on the narrow sides and bearing the studio name Yijin Zhai, a studio used by the Qianlong emperor's 11th son Yongxing, Prince Cheng (1752-1823), a noted calligrapher and collector of snuff bottles, see lot 230 in this sale.
