A SUPERB CHALCEDONY AGATE 'MONKEYS AND PEACHES' SNUFF BOTTLE

Suzhou, 1740-1820
Of small bulbous spade shape, carved in high relief in a continuous scene with a monkey clambering upwards amidst rockwork supported on a pine branch and reaching to a tempting hanging peach spray above, the reverse side with two monkeys, one crouching with one hand on his head and the other reaching down to another climbing monkey, whose legs and feet continue to the slightly concave oval base, a wispy cloud at the shoulder above below a waisted neck with flat lip and small mouth.
1 7/8in (4.7cm) high, stopper
