A red-painted number to the base of this bottle, 43. 255A, suggests that this was part of a gift that Mrs. Henry Lang gave to the Montclair Museum in 1943 (and later de-accessioned), see Schuyler V. R. Cammann, Miniature Art From Old China, Chinese Snuff Bottles from the Montclair Art Museum Collections, Montclair, New Jersey, 1982, Foreword, p. VII
