A CHALCEDONY SHADOW AGATE 'MENG HAORAN' SNUFF BOTTLE

1750-1860
Of rounded rectangular shape, cleverly edited to use the dark brown inclusion in the stone to depict Ming Haoran riding his mule and carrying a prunus blossom branch across his right shoulder with a single flying bat swooping towards him, the scene, unusually, almost completely filling the main side, the reverse side plain, below a cylindrical neck with concave rim and small mouth, supported on a short spreading foot with narrow rounded oval foot ring and flat base.
