A BLACK, GRAY AND WHITE JADE 'MENG HAORAN' SNUFF BOTTLE

Suzhou type, 1780-1860
Of large, rounded square shape, carved in relief on the main side using the gray and white areas of the stone with Meng Haoran on his mule collecting the winter plum blossom which is draped over the shoulder of his assistant trudging behind, fruiting persimmon trees to each side with rockwork and a hut forming a backdrop, the narrow sides and reverse plain, all below a short cylindrical neck with slightly concave rim and small mouth, supported on a very short foot with a wide flat oval foot rim and slightly convex base.
