A FINE PAIR OF HUANGHUALI STOOLS, FANGDENG

18th/19th century
The hard mat seat set into a mitred, mortise-and-tenon frame of double 'bamboo' construction and supported by a single bow-form stretcher underneath, the cylindrical legs tenoned into the seat frame and with 'wrap-around' humpback aprons joined to the top frame by two pillar-shaped posts, the well-figured wood a rich dark honey color throughout.
