A RARE LONGQUAN CELADON FIVE-SPOUT VESSEL

Southern Song Dynasty
The deep rounded body carved on the exterior with a wide band of upright lotus petals and five cylindrical spouts rising from the sloping shoulder, the short neck with a disc-shaped rim, glazed inside and out in an attractive sea-green tone turning darker in recessed areas, the foot rim neatly pared showing the light gray porcelaneous clay body.

Longquan five-spout vessels of this form are well-known but rarely come to the market.

Compare the very similar Longquan five-spout vessel discovered from a Southern Song cache in Suining, Sichuan province, illustrated in the excavation report Junyucun Hoard of Southern Song Dynasty in Suining, I-II, Beijing, 2012, on the cover and col. pl. 36-37.
