FRANK HYAMS: SAUTOIR 'NÉGLIGÉ' CRISTAL DE ROCHE ET GREENSTONE MAORI, CIRCA 1910

Composé sur l'ensemble de cabochons de greenstone de Maori dite "Pounamu" alternés de disques de cristal de roche, centré d'un motif de trèfle réhaussé d'une perle blanche, retenant deux glands stylisés, sur une chaîne à maille forçat, poinçons français d'import pour l'or 18K (750 ‰), longueur du collier 54.00 cm, longueur du pendentif 6.50 cm, poids brut 26.55 g, accompagné d'un écrin à la forme de la maison Frank Hayms Ld.

Composed of greenstone cabochons known as "Pounamu" alternating with disc-shaped rock crystal, set to the centre with a white pearl within a clover motif surround, suspending two stylised acorns, to a curb-link chain, French import marks for 18 carat gold, chain length 54.00 cm, pendant length 6.50 cm, gross weight 26.55 grams, accompanied by a fitted box signed Frank Hayms Ld.

Frank Hyams, bijoutier, orfèvre et horloger originaire de Nouvelle-Zélande, établit des boutiques prestigieuses à la fois à Londres et à Dunedin au début du XXᵉ siècle. Réputé pour la finesse de son artisanat, il travaillait notamment le greenstone — une pierre verte caractéristique de Nouvelle-Zélande, variété de jade néphrite, étroitement liée à la culture maorie. Hyams créait non seulement des bijoux raffinés, mais aussi des objets de table, des candélabres en greenstone, des instruments d'écriture et d'autres pièces décoratives. Parmi sa clientèle figuraient des personnalités illustres, dont Leopold de Rothschild.


Frank Hyams, a jeweller, goldsmith, and watchmaker originally from New Zealand, established prestigious boutiques in both London and Dunedin in the early 20th century. Renowned for his refined craftsmanship, he often worked with greenstone — a distinctive green variety of nephrite jade native to New Zealand and deeply rooted in Māori culture. Hyams created not only fine jewellery, but also elegant tableware, greenstone candlesticks, writing instruments, and other decorative objects. His clientele included notable figures such as Leopold de Rothschild.
