Provenance
Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner

A devotee of photography and hyperrealism, Pyotr Belenok emerged as one of the few Soviet artists to seamlessly fit within the context of Western European postmodern art. The distinctive visual aesthetic of his work represented a synthesis of expressionism and photorealism. Primarily working in collage, he combined cut-outs from European magazines with expressive painting. Employing minimal artistic means, Belenok crafted easily recognisable, unique pieces marked by a sharp sense of dramatic tension.

However, not all his work was dominated by catastrophe; the exploration of humanity's place in the universe and themes of cosmism were also keenly felt in his oeuvre. Even during his lifetime, Belenok's art garnered recognition in the West, where it was hailed as both original and pioneering.
