The Tudor Submariner ref 7922, introduced in 1954, marked Tudor's inaugural venture into dive watches. Designed for professional divers, it featured a 37mm stainless steel case, a black lacquered dial with gilt inscriptions, and a bidirectional rotating bezel graduated in 5-minute intervals. The watch was powered by the self-winding Tudor Caliber 390, a modified Fleurier movement with a frequency of 18,000 beats per hour. Its waterproofness was guaranteed to a depth of 100 meters, making it a reliable tool for underwater exploration. Notably, the 7922 lacked crown guards, a distinctive feature of early Tudor Submariners. In 1958, Jacques Cousteau presented a 7922 to André Laban, a French diver and painter, who used it during his underwater expeditions. The watch remained Laban's personal dive companion for over 60 years, underscoring its durability and significance in the history of diving. The 7922's legacy continues to influence Tudor's modern dive watch designs, embodying the brand's commitment to precision and functionality.
