Footnotes

Tripod zoomorphic vase representing a jaguar. On the ovoid body, the animal's head is rendered in relief along with the two front legs resting on the hind legs, which serve as the vessel's feet. The flared neck above the head is adorned with red and black register friezes on a cream background.
The jaguar's legs, head, and chest are also decorated with geometric and animal motifs. Holes at the knees indicate that the feet were used as rattles, marking the rhythm of ritual ceremonies.

Provenance
Arts des Amériques, Paris, 1970.
Private collection, Belgium, acquired at the above. The purchase recorded in a 20th March 1986 insurance document.
