Footnotes

Funerary urn with a globular body, two handles, and a high, wide-open neck. It is decorated with stylized faces framing medallions depicting figures holding shields adorned with serpents. These symbolize the sky, while stepped motifs are synonymous with rain. Through these representations, men on their journey to the afterlife sought to perpetuate harmony between heaven and earth. Its form and decoration are characteristic of the Calchaquí peoples, a branch of the Diaguita from northwestern Argentina.
