Edo period (1615-1868) or Meiji era (1868-1912), 19th/early 20th century
The black-lacquered case with folding doors, supported on a stepped base fitted with three drawers with gilt-metal hardware, the interior gold lacquered and with three niches separated by black-lacquered columns ornamented with nanakoji gilt-metal fittings, the central niche containing a standing figure of Amida Buddha, his right and left hands respectively in the semuin (fear not) and yogan'in (welcome) gestures, the architectural base and canopy elaborately carved with clouds, dragons, birds, and flowers; and with three pairs of, respectively, bronze candlestands, flower vases, and offering stands
