Footnotes

The Eiraku family, also known as Nishimura from the first through ninth generations, is a Kyoto-based ceramics lineage, the head of which takes the name Zengorō, who produces mainly tea ceremony-related wares. The present lot was produced by the 11th generation, who took the name Hozen (Yasutake) after passing the Zengorō name to his son. The inscription on the lid of this tomobako box indicates that this piece was inspired by 14th-century Sukhothai art from Thailand.
