Karimzadeh describes Muhammed Sabir as an early 18th century painter whose style was a combination of Persian and Indian elements (Mohammad Ali Karimzadeh Tabrizi, The Lives & Art of Old Painters of Iran, London 1990, pp.897-8). The only dated object recorded by him is a penbox in the Khalili Collection dated AH 1131 (AD 1718-19) (Nasser D. Khalili, Lacquer of the Islamic Lands, Part One, 1999, p. 248, cat 201).
