Historical context
This rare and early colour photograph of Earth from orbit, captured through the window of the Mercury-Atlas 5 spacecraft carrying the chimpanzee Enos, marks the infancy of space photography. The clock for the automatic sequence camera is visible at the bottom right.

Footnotes

This Earth orbital view of clouds over the ocean was captured using a Maurer 220G camera equipped with a 75mm lens and GAF Super Anscochrome T-100 Superior ASA 64 colour reversal film. During the flight, the spacecraft reached an apogee of 147.5 miles and a perigee of 99.6 miles.
