Historical context
The beauty of a human spacecraft above another world.
This stunning photograph captures the Command Module Casper from the Lunar Module Orion shortly after undocking. Taken from 57 km above the surface during Apollo 16's 12th revolution, the image showcases Casper's sleek design, its metallic surfaces gleaming against the stark, cratered landscape of the lunar far side west of Crater Abul Wafa.
Using the Hasselblad EVA 500 EL Data Camera with a 60mm lens, Charlie Duke preserved a moment of quiet beauty—a lone spacecraft suspended over the desolate Moon. The crew couldn't help but admire the sight:
"Boy, Ken, you look great!" —John Young (Mission transcript, 096:16:31 GET)
"You really got a pretty spacecraft!
"

—Charlie Duke (Mission transcript, 096:16:33 GET)

Footnotes

From the mission transcript after undocking:
096:16:31 Young (Orion): Boy, Ken, you look great!
096:16:32 Mattingly (Casper): Well...
096:16:33 Duke (Orion): You really got a pretty spacecraft!
096:16:34 Mattingly (Casper): Yours is a [garble] pretty one, too.
