Historical context
A captivating wide-angle view of the Moon's horizon over the Ocean of Storms.
This perspective from lunar orbit emphasizes the Moon's barren and isolated beauty, offering a rare and immersive view of its horizon curving away into the blackness of space.
Captured through the window of the Apollo 15 Command Module Endeavour, this unreleased wide-angle photograph showcases the lunar horizon as seen looking west over the 10-km wide and 2-km deep Crater Angström and Schröters Valley in the Ocean of Storms (29.9°N 41.6°W).
Taken with the Hasselblad 500 EL Data Camera equipped with a 60mm lens, this image provides an expansive and dramatic view of the Moon's surface. The vast lunar landscape, bathed in stark sunlight, highlights the sharp relief of impact craters, rolling plains, and winding rilles.
