Historical context
This sharp image, taken by Russell Schweickart with the Hasselblad Super Wide camera and its wide-angle 38mm lens during his spacewalk, reveals intricate details of the Lunar Module Spider during its first flight, docked to the Command Module Gumdrop in the background. The LM window is visible, through which James McDivitt captured photographs and 16mm film of both Schweickart's EVA on Spider's porch and David Scott's stand-up EVA in the open hatch of Gumdrop.
Apollo 9 EVA provided the only photographs of the hard docked LM and CSM in the entire Apollo program, showing the Apollo spacecraft in its configuration for the translunar journey.
