Numbered "NASA image AS9-19-2940" in red in the top margin, with "A Kodak Paper" watermark on the reverse (issued by NASA Manned Spacecraft Centre, Houston, Texas).

Historical context
This photograph captures the S-IVB third stage of the Saturn V rocket after the extraction of the docked Lunar Module (LM) from the adapter, with the cloud-covered Pacific Ocean in the background. A LM thruster quad is visible in the foreground.
For the first time in history, the Apollo 9 crew successfully executed the crucial manoeuvre of docking with the LM-SIVB and extracting the Lunar Module from its protective adapter atop the Saturn V's third stage, where it had been housed during launch.
