Vintage chromogenic print on fibre-based Kodak paper [NASA image S-66-45688].

Historical context
Gemini X was the first mission to achieve both a flawless docking and the successful firing of Agena 10's rocket, boosting the spacecraft to a record-breaking apogee of 413 nautical miles. This milestone allowed Collins and Young to view Earth from a higher altitude than any human had ever reached. LIFE Magazine celebrated the achievement in its August 1966 issue under the headline "Highest photos of Earth taken by man."

Footnotes

This rare view, captured through the spacecraft window with the 70mm Maurer space camera and Kodak Ektachrome SO-217 film (ASA 64), reveals Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, the Yucatan Channel, and the western end of Cuba.
