Newly Translated, the captions by Aphra Behn, additional engraved pictorial title, full-page engraved armorial coat-of-arms of the Earl of Devonshire, one full-page illustration of Aesop surrounded by animals and birds ("See here how natures books..."), and 31 engraved plates (including the "indecent" plate 17) by Thomas Dudley and Francis Barlow, 110 half-page engraved illustrations, spotting and toning to the plates (small area of plate 25 torn away), shaved touching the upper rule border of a few pages only, nineteenth century blind-stamped calf, gilt lettering on spine, joints worn, dulled [ESTC R22991], folio (305 x 195mm.), H. This second edition of Francis Barlow's edition of Aesop was the first to contain the 31 plates illustrating Aesop's life, and the quatrains by Aphra Behn replacing those of Thomas Philpott within the 110 illustrations. This copy includes the so-called "indecent" plate 17 which is often missing.
