The Mercator-Hondius Atlas was greatly expanded in 1630 and this 1633 French edition was issued with 107 new maps, and 115 new maps compared with the previous French edition of 1628. The total number of maps, 239, was too much for one volume, therefore, Hondius engraved a new title page for volume one and used the old Mercator title page for the second volume.
This copy collates as Koeman 36C, which calls for 239 maps. Our copy lacking one map in volume one ("Description des pais inondes, appelles The Fenns").
