The Holy Bible, printed in roman type, 2 titles within wide pictorial woodcut border (NT title and colophon dated 1612), Speed's genealogies with map bound before title, cropped with some losses to side-notes or touching headlines, title of Genealogies soiled with small loss to woodcut ornament, contemporary black morocco gilt, sides with panelled design with stylised flower corner-piece decoration, tooled (vase, flower sprays, stars etc.) in six compartments within raised bands, g.e., upper cover detached, a few flecks of red paint on spine [Herbert 320; STC 2225], 4to (208 x 160mm.), Robert Barker, 1613[-1612]
Footnotes
An early printing of the quarto edition of the Authorised version. Herbert notes that it "closely resembles the first quarto of 1612... this is a distinct edition". Our copy varies slightly from Herbert 320, in that it omits the words "Appointed..." on the NT title, but does have it on the OT title, whilst the Herbert entry has the words omitted on both titles.
Provenance: John Watson, ownership inscription (with pen trials) on verso of the NT title, and note of the birth of Morgan Watson (22 December 1629) on the blank verso of the "list of books" leaf.
