Footnotes

The first seven volumes of a monumental Dutch botanical work. The series was begun by Jan Kops in 1800, a Dutch agronomist, botanist, and professor at the University of Utrecht. He edited the first ten volumes until his death in 1849, and was then succeeded by several other editors. The last volume (number 28) was issued in 1934 and a complete run comprises 2240 plates.
