Plantae javanicae rariores, descriptiae iconibusque illustratae, quas in insula Java, annis 1802-1818, legit et investigavit], FIRST EDITION, large folding engraved map of Java hand-coloured in outline, 45 lithographed plates (of 50, all but 8 hand-coloured, all with small institutional stamp, approximately 20 damp-stained, lacks title and preliminary matter before p.1, pp. 197-238 and plates 41-45 (all provided in facsimile) modern cloth [Nissen BBI 934; Stafleu TL2 418], folio (360 x 245mm.), W.H. Allen, 1838-1852

The American naturalist Thomas Horsfield, spent sixteen years in Java forming a herbarium of over 2000 species. On his return to England he published a catalogue under the guidance of Robert Brown, with illustrations by John Curtis.
