Chuchill") on illuminated presentation leaf, "Presented to Alderman E.C.S.S. Stow, O.B.E., J.P.C.C. by his fellow Justices of the South Hunsley Bench, East Riding of York on his retirement as chairman, May 1952" pasted in before the half-title of volume 1, signatures of 29 others on the front free endpaper of volumes 1 and 2, various press cuttings loosely inserted, publisher's cloth, dust-jackets (frayed and toned, volume 4 with loss to upper portion of spine), 8vo, Cassell, 1950-1954

Provenance: Ernest Charles Stow (1875-1958), solicitor, who held the chairmanship of the Food Committee from 1914, and the Food Control Committee during WW2, member of the Hull Law Society, and for some twenty years chairman of the South Hunsley Beacon Session until his retirement in 1952, at which time he was presented with this set; his son John (who had joined his firm in 1949 and is one of the signers of the book), and by descent to the present owner.
