Two attractive Bow plates, circa 1750-56

The earlier 'nappy' plate painted in bright famille rose enamels with two peacocks, one perched on flowering peony, the second in flight, the narrow rim with a flowerhead and scroll border, 19.5cm diam, the larger plate with a broad rim painted and gilt with oriental flowering plants, the centre with prunus, bamboo and rockwork, a moth in flight above, 23.4cm diam (2)

Famille rose decoration featured throughout the 1750s at Bow. The larger plate in this lot features and unusual lime green and highlights are picked out in gold.

The term 'nappy' plate is a reference to the narrow-flanged or 'knapped' rim found on this particular shape.
